Planet Scan

Upon entering a new star system, the Science Officer conducts a planet scan, filling out a Star System Sheet that lists each planet in a star system and the planets’ important properties.

Each star system has 1d12 planets, moons, and asteroid fields of potential value. Each of these planetary bodies has a Type assigned to it by rolling 1d100 and consulting the Planetary Body Chart below. Planetary bodies have a degree of minerals, lifeforms, and hazards (weather, heat, tectonics) generated randomly with modifiers based on its Type. A net result of zero or lower in a Hazard indicates no significant threat from that Hazard.

Once a Planetary Scan is complete, the Officers of the Flagship may then embark on expeditions to harvest the planets’ valuable minerals and biological data. See Planetary Exploration.
